USA and Spain roll on to make it four wins in four games to make the Round of 16…
It was business as usual for Team USA and Spain on Wednesday with both nations winning comfortably to extend their unbeaten starts to the tournament.
Kenneth Faried played a big role for the Americans against the Dominican Republic with 16 points but it was a shared effort as several players were able to contribute significantly in the dominant win.
DeMarcus Cousins added 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and six blocks, while Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson posted up eight points apiece with DeMar DeRozan adding 11.
Meanwhile, Marc Gasol took the top performer honours for the hosts in their win over France with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block in a brilliant all-round performance, and that was undoubtedly the more impressive win considering the threat posed by Les Bleus.
Nevertheless, along with Greece and Slovenia, the four teams have 100% records heading into the last pool games on Thursday, with USA taking on Ukraine.
Elsewhere, Australia defeated Mexico to put themselves in a strong position in Group D while New Zealand kept their hopes alive in Group C with victory over Ukraine.
However, it wasn’t such a memorable day for Serbia who were defeated by Brazil to leave them with much to think about heading into the final game, but it is clear which teams are emerging as genuine threats with USA and Spain still leading the way.
