Cousins suffers knee injury scare: Listed as “day-to-day” ahead of FIBA World Cup.
Team USA center DeMarcus Cousins came close to throwing a punch during his team’s win over Lithuania in the semi-final of the FIBA World Cup on Thursday night.
The Sacramento Kings star received an elbow to the throat from Toronto Raptors rival Jonas Valanciunas as they boxed out during a free-throw attempt.
“Boogie” didn’t appreciate the elbow and he briefly contemplated delivering a fist back to Valanciunas before regathering his composure just in time to draw back.
Valanciunas saw the move coming from the corner of his eye and naturally flinched, but fortunately for him, the tournament and everyone concerned, Cousins was able to prevent himself from doing anything silly.
However, he didn’t escape punishment entirely and was handed a technical foul which sent him to the bench to cool down as he explained to his team-mates what exactly made him lose his cool in the first place.
Tempers flared again after the game as Coach Mike Krzyzewski was seen separating the two teams on the court as they became involved in an exchange of words which threatened to turn physical.
