Houston Rockets star James Harden took his NBA level defense into the FIBA World Cup on Thursday night, but as fans know by now, it’s non-existent.
Harden’s effort and ability on the defensive end is one of the easiest areas of any individual’s game to pick on, and fans, experts and commentators love to have a dig at every available opportunity.
That’s exactly what ESPN broadcaster Fran Fraschilla did on Thursday during the semi-final victory over Lithuania, insisting that he could have scored on the Rockets star in the play below.
Now it is worth stating that Harden was struggling with foul trouble at this point and didn’t want to risk a third infraction before the half-time break. However, he could surely pretend that he’s making an effort at least…
Nevertheless, Lithuania clearly did their homework prior to the game and targeted his poor defense early on, but as every other team at the FIBA World Cup 2014 have realised, it is difficult to stop the Americans over the course of a 40-minute game.
Harden had his say after scoring 16 points in a huge third quarter for Team USA, and he’ll be taking his scoring, beard and awful defense to the final of the tournament on Sunday.
