Fiorentina salvaged a point against AC Milan in Serie A despite being reduced to ten men in the first half.
Fiorentina produced a stirring comeback against AC Milan in Serie A in a match that was dominated by the referee, Paolo Tagliavento.
A number of his decisions proved crucial throughout.
The first, his decision to show Nenad Tomovic a red card after his elbow made contact with Stephan El Shaarawy, though replays indicated the call was harsh in the extreme.
AC Milan had already taken an early lead through former I Viola man Riccardo Montolivo, who again proved the adage that players always score against their old side.
The Rossoneri were decent value for their lead, but Fiorentina were having chances prior to that, and after the sending off the match was no longer a contest.
Mathieu Flamini doubled AC Milan’s lead just after the hour mark, and the result seemed in little doubt.
However, again it was referee Tagliavento who took the spotlight, awarding Fiorentina two penalties within seven minutes of each other in the second half to allow Adem Ljajic and David Pizarro the chances to score.
They duly obliged, and Fiorentina left San Siro with the unlikeliest of points.
