Fiorentina dented Inter Milan’s top four hopes with a comprehensive victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Such was the hosts dominance, they were unfortunate to only score four, with Adem Ljajic and alleged Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic both grabbing a brace.
It was all Fiorentina early on and the opening goal seemed inevitable. It arrived when a Manuel Pasqual cross was flicked on by Jovetic to reach the unmarked Ljajic for a diving header from six yards.
Moments later Jovetic was left in acres of space and the striker forced Inter ‘keeper Samir Handanovic into a tough save, as the Viola threatened to run riot.
Then came the moment of the first half, as the sublime Jovetic dribbled away from Andrea Ranocchia and curled an unstoppable right-foot strike into the far top corner from the edge of the box to put the home team firmly in control.
Fiorentina continued to dominate in the second half and Jovetic made it 3-0 on 55 minutes after Juan Cuadrado’s back heel found the forward in the box.
Inter’s players knew the game was over and Fiorentina made it four through Ljajic, who curled home from the edge of the area to confirm the points.
Antonio Cassano grabbed a late consolation for the away side with a fantastic strike from distance, but it was all too late as Fiorentina ran out dominant winners.
