Magpies leave their run too late as they lose in the West.
The Fremantle Dockers overcame the loss of another ruckman and a late fightback by the Collingwood Magpies to lock up a 27-point victory at Patersons Stadium.
Jon Griffin’s season hangs by a thread after the Fremantle big-man left the field after a seemingly harmless contest in the 11th minute of the game.
Despite being down yet another tall, Fremantle kicked the last five goals of the game to run out deserving winners 15.10 (100) to 10-13 (73).
The Dockers led by as much as 44 points mid-way through the second quarter, but thanks to Griffin being off the field, the Magpies started to dominated the centre clearances.
Thanks to the ball flooding into their forward fifty, Collingwood hit the lead early in the last when substitute Caolan Mooney dribbled the ball through.
While many expected the Magpies to come over the top of the Dockers, small forward Michael Walters stepped up and kicked four goals, while Garrick Ibbotson also played a key role to snap Fremantle’s four-match losing streak to Collingwood.
Magpies midfielder Dane Swan (27 possessions and two goals) and Sam Dwyer (25 disposals, two goals) helped spark the fightback, but key forward Travis Cloke had an off night with just 0.4.

The Dockers have already lost Kepler Bradley for the season, while fellow key position players Matthew Pavlich (plantaris), Aaron Sandilands (hamstring) and Zac Clarke (leg) are still absent through injury, making the outcome of Griffin’s injury potentially season-defining.
The Magpies also face a nervous wait after defender Heath Shaw struck Fremantle goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne in the groin.
