Turks stun their hosts to progress to the last eight.
Galatasaray head coach Fatih Terim said that his side fully deserved to beat high flying Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in their Champions League second leg last 16 clash on Tuesday night.
The Turkish champions travelled to Germany having only managed a 1-1 draw in the first encounter in Istanbul three weeks ago, with the home side considered to be strong favourites to progress to the last eight of Europe’s premier club competition.
However, the visitors stunned Schalke by registering a 3-2 win on the night, with Terim saying his side were the better team.
“Schalke is a good team and I respect them, it was important for us to beat them .This wasn’t an easy game but it was clear that we went in front in the first half because we were better, we didn’t let them into the game but still conceded a goal,” Terim said in his post-match press conference.
“Some teams in the Champions League have five or six chances in two games – we had that in one half. We could have scored a third and a fourth goal but it is what it is.”
