From tragedy to triumph – 1999 World Cup
Ricky Ponting scored 33, 47 and 47 respectively in Australia’s win against Scotland before they defeated by New Zealand and Pakistan in the Pool stages of the 1999 World Cup.
The back-to-back losses had many whether the Australian side would be able to win the biggest title in the game.
However, the Australian’s moved through to the knockout stages where they beat South Africa in a classic before storming past Pakistan in the final to see Ponting, and Australia, win the title, with the Tasmanian scoring 354 runs at 39.33.
