Redemption in a tiny little urn
If 2005 was a year to forget for Ricky Ponting, 2007 was a year to remember.
Not only did he lead Australia to a thumping 5-0 against the then second strongest side in world cricket, he did it leading from the front.
Ponting was awarded the player of the series award after he scored 576 runs at 82.29 including two centuries and two half centuries.
Australia then headed to the World Cup in the Wests Indies where they were untroubled to become the first country to win three World Cup titles.
But after 2007 a changing of the guard signaled the most testing time in Ponting’s career as he lost all-time great players Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Shane Warne, Justin Langer, Damien Martyn and Glenn McGrath to retirement.
