Essendon wasteful in front of goal, led in part to their first loss of the season.
The Geelong Cats extend their unbeaten run to seven with a 28-point triumph over the previously undefeated Bombers at Etihad Stadium.
After trailing at quarter time, Geelong kicked up a gear and prevailed 17.11 (113) to 11.19 (85) against their inaccurate opponents in front of 53,014 fans at Etihad Stadium.
The Bombers squandered chances to claw back into the match with wayward kicking in front of goal but that takes nothing from a sublime and professional effort by the Cats.
Steve Johnson equalled his career high with 36 disposals while Steven Motlop had 28 but kicked just the one goal. Matthew Stokes kicked three for the victors while David Zaharakis was among the Bombers’ best with 31 touches.
