The former Arsenal star struggled to settle and display his talent fully during his spell in north London, but his switch to the Italian capital in 2013 undoubtedly re-energised him.
After going through a difficult period which culminated in speculation that he was set to leave Roma for Al Jazira this past summer, as reported by The Independent, the Ivorian has worked his way back into the team under Rudi Garcia and has proven his importance to the French tactician.
The 28-year-old now has five goals in nine appearances in all competitions so far this season, and naturally questions will continue to be asked as to why he was unable to find his feet at the Emirates and repay the faith shown in him by Arsene Wenger.
Meanwhile, another former Premier League star played a crucial role in the Giallorossi taking command in the game against Fiorentina with Mohamed Salah opening the scoring at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Roma know that a win will take them top of the Serie A table and two points clear of the Viola, while Napoli will hope to move level with Paulo Sousa’s men on 18 points as they face Chievo on Sunday night looking to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games.
