West Ham United has taken an early first half lead over Stoke City thanks to a goal from defender Aaron Cresswell following a stunning piece of trickery.
It took a mere six minutes for the Hammers to move the ball deep into Stoke territory, where striker Enner Valencia was promptly fouled by Stoke City midfielder Glenm Whelan. On the ensuing free kick, Valencia pretended to move towards the kick, but instead acted as the decoy for Creswell, who promptly recorded just his second goal of the Premier League season thanks to a beautiful kick to the upper right corner – and well out of the reach of Stoke City goalie Asmir Begovic.
That 7 minute goal by Cresswell marked just the 12th league goal of his career, and the 15th including FA Cup and League Cup appearances. Stoke City would prove unable to make anything out of the opportunities they had in the first half and head into the second half trailing 1-0.
