Strong batting performances from both Surrey and Somerset resulted in a drawn County Championship match at the Oval, an outcome that captain Graeme Smith is satisfied with.

It was Smith’s first outing for the side since his high profile move to the county and although the South African’s showing with the bat was disappointing, the team as a whole played well.

Stuart Meaker was the pick of the bowlers for the home club, taking second innings figures of 5-60 to ensure the Proteas skipper didn’t suffer defeat on his debut.
