Following some clever build-up play and a great assist from Erik Lamela, the England international was able to put the icing on the cake for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who have now gone 10 games unbeaten.
It all looked straight forward for the hosts as Mousa Dembele broke the deadlock after just two minutes, before Dele Alli added a second with a wonderfully taken goal.
However, in front of their new manager Remi Garde who watched on from the stands at White Hart Lane, Villa to their credit mounted a comeback with Jordan Ayew’s deflected effort setting up a nervy finish for Spurs.
Although the visitors did threaten to grab an equaliser, with both Ayew and substitute Rudy Gestede going close, Kane had the last word as he continues his impressive recent run of form.
The victory lifts Spurs to joint-fifth with West Ham on 20 points, which in turn sees them sit just a point adrift of Manchester United who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.
Given their recent form, Pochettino will be delighted with their mentality and approach ahead of the north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday, although he will know that it will be a tough test against Arsene Wenger’s side at the Emirates.
Nevertheless, it was an impressive performance in general from his side on Monday night, with Alli picking up the man of the match award. The 19-year-old was a commanding presence in midfield and took his goal well to show great positional sense, technical skill and ability to finish which will have also delighted England boss Roy Hodgson.
