Villa and Hull in bore draw…
Hull City and Aston Villa were each deserted by their recent momentum in a dreary 0-0 Premier League draw at the KC Stadium on Saturday.
Both teams were gunning for a third consecutive victory, having each overcome indifferent starts to the season, but they had to settle for a draw after a game in which visitors Villa made most of the running.
Nevertheless, both Hull manager Steve Bruce and his Villa counterpart Paul Lambert could regard the league standings with satisfaction after the game, with Hull eighth and Villa ninth.
Bruce made one change to the team that won 1-0 at home to West Ham United last weekend, with Stephen Quinn replacing injured top scorer Robbie Brady, who has been sidelined by a hernia problem.
Villa welcomed back Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Westwood from injury, but were once again without Christian Benteke due to his hip injury.
Quinn saw a sight of goal go begging when he came close to turning home a cross, before Agbonlahor tested Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor with a smart left-foot shot after beating a pair of defenders.
Hull’s best effort of the first half came late on, but Tom Huddlestone could only shoot straight at visiting goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
The game’s best chance fell to Agbonlahor in the 53rd minute, but from Andreas Weimann’s cut-back, he put the ball a yard wide.
Ahmed Elmohamady had an opportunity to win it for Hull in the dying stages following a neat move, but after Maynor Figueroa’s cross was dummied by substitute Yannick Sagbo, he dragged his shot wide.
