One-time world No 1wins last-eight showdown in three sets.
Jelena Jankovic was taken all the way by Italy’s Roberta Vinci in a thrilling quarter-final of the Sony Open in Miami on Wednesday, before eventually prevailing 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to book her place in the semi-finals, where she will play Maria Sharapova.
Although Jankovic breezed through the opening set against the 15th seed, she appeared to lose focus after that, dropping her serve and then the second set too.
However, in the third and deciding set the one-time world No 1 recovered her composure and proved just too strong for Vinci.
