Sheffield-born athlete claimed gold at London 2012.
Britain’s Jessica Ennis was voted the World Sportswoman of the Year at the prestigious Laureus Sports awards in Brazil on Monday to cap off what has been a sensational 12 months for the athlete.
The Sheffield-born star was presented with the award in Rio De Janeiro after winning the heptathalon gold medal at London 2012.
The 27-year-old has now joins double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes as the only British woman to have claimed the award.
“It’s so surreal to stand here, firstly in front of all you amazing sportsmen and women and be in this position where, as a ten year-old, I came into sport and dreamt of being an Olympian and an Olympic champion and I’ve finally done it,” said Ennis.
