Fifth Ashes Test slows to a crawl at The Oval on day three.
England opening batsman Joe Root has rubbished talk his side are simply trying to play for a draw in the fifth Ashes test of the summer having already retained the prestigious prize.
The rate in which England weren’t scoring runs became the biggest talking point on the day as the home side only managed to make 215 runs from 98 overs.
Root said it was the tight line and length of the Australian attack which kept him and his teammates quiet, however, some player’s strike-rates have fell through the floor in comparison to earlier efforts this summer, with Kevin Pietersen’s 50 coming from 190 balls.
