London outfit can achieve promotion to the English top flight, claims Swede.
Gianfranco Zola is a “brilliant” coach according to Watford’s Sweden defender Joel Ekstrand, who also believes that the London-based Championship club can get promotion to the Premier League this season.
“When I came here there were a lot of young players. Of course, I can say I was impressed by the players who were here,” said Ekstrand.
“There were a lot of players from Udinese and Granada so I knew the quality of the players. I didn’t know 100 per cent about the Championship but, of course, I am a bit surprised by the results and our position in the table at third.
“To be honest I knew that we had very good players, here we have a lot of good players that aren’t even playing so I am not that surprised but of course it is always the matter of getting the team together.
“He (Gianfranco Zola) has been a very brilliant manager so far. He has experience and the games he played – national games, club games, in a high level. He has got a lot of experience. He can tell you a lot of things in certain situations that he can explain what the players might think.
“But for me the best experience he has and the most important is that he understands us players. He gets us – for me he gets us to (be) in the best mood. If I can say so. The best mood for between games and before games.”
