Brazilian star picked up thigh strain on second debut for club.
Kaka has asked AC Milan to stop paying his wages until he returns from a thigh injury he sustained during his second debut for the club against Torino on Saturday night.
The 31-year-old returned to the Rossoneri this summer after four years in Madrid, and made an immediate return to the starting line-up for the trip to Turin.
While Milan battled back from two goals down to claim a point, coach Massimiliano Allegri suffered a number of fitness problems as Kaka joined Andrea Poli and Riccardo Montolivo in the treatment room.
“You have probably read about my injury on the Milan website,” the attacking midfielder said in a video message to fans which can be viewed below.
“Yesterday was a bad day for me because in all honesty I was not expecting an injury like this. It was really bad and difficult for me.
“I have spoken at length with the club, with [Vice-President Adriano] Galliani and with the doctors to decide on a few things.
“In the end I decided that I don’t want anything from Milan except for love and support until I am better, until I am fully fit and ready to play again.
“For this reason, I have decided to suspend my current pay for this period of time. The only thing I ask is for support and help to recover properly.
“It is a difficult moment, but I have started to work on getting better and I hope to be back as quickly as possible to bring some joy to all you fans out there and to myself too.”
It is a bitter blow for both the player and club, who had hoped his return would inspire their return to the 4-3-1-2 system that Kaka flourished in during his first spell in Italy.
While he was perhaps lacking match sharpness against Torino, there were promising signs of his ability to link up play between the lines, and his absence will be felt in the Champions League opener against Celtic.
Allegri now faces a real problem with selecting his starting line-up for the game on Wednesday night, but if calculations are correct based on La Gazzetta dello Sport’s previous findings, Kaka will be sacrificing around €300,000 if he is ruled out for four weeks.
