The main event lived up to expectations at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as both men went to war as although Thurman dominated many of the rounds, Guerrero continued to press forward and land shots of his own.
Thurman had promised a knockout on Saturday, and although he had Guerrero down in the 9th round, his opponent kept coming and absorbing big punches before responded in the later rounds as the two fighters went toe-to-toe and exchanged.
However, it was the unbeaten 26-year-old who ultimately prevailed with all three judges scoring it heavily in his favour, as ultimately he produced the cleaner work with his lethal combinations that rocked Guerrero on a number of occasions.
Thurman has made no secret of his desire to get big fights later in the year, and with an impressive performance to cap off a successful first night of the ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ series on NBC, he is undoubtedly closing in on a title shot in the coming months.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing night for Guerrero with the loss, but he will certainly take heart from the performance as he showed great bravery and determination to keep going.
Nevertheless, it’s Thurman who steals the headlines after an impressive performance in what will likely be a contender for ‘Fight of the Year’.
