Brook defeats Robles, says he would prefer Malignaggi in title fight.
Kell Brook claimed an eighth-round stoppage against Alvaro Robles in Liverpool on Saturday night, as he now looks ahead to his IBF title bout this summer.
Brook extended his record to 32-0 as Robles’ corner threw in the total after a gruelling night’s work for the Mexican, with the 27-year-old Sheffield fighter now eyeing a possible meeting with either Shawn Porter or Paulie Malignaggi for the IBF title.
The duo are set to meet on April 19 with Brook entitled to a fight with the winner within 90 days as he finally gets a word title shot after frustration over the past year or so with injuries.
“I’m only after those elite fighters now,” Brook told Sky Sports. “I’m happy I got this out of the way and the next one is for the IBF strap.”
Brook insisted that he was pleased with how he performed on the night and gave the fans something to cheer about with the stoppage, but ideally if he had to pick his next opponent he would perhaps prefer facing Malignaggi.
Watch the full fight video below and hear from Brook as he gives his reaction to Saturday night along with his thoughts on his future this summer.
