The Belgian international has now scored seven goals in 15 appearances in all competitions since arriving in Manchester, and he is undoubtedly proving to be a shrewd signing by the club.
With Arsenal and Chelsea crashing out of the competition on Tuesday night, City will be amongst the Premier League giants that remain hoping to take full advantage in their quest to win silverware this season.
Palace could have been considered a tricky assignment given their form in the league so far this year which sees them sit in seventh place, but Manuel Pellegrini’s side had other ideas in the first half.
Wilfried Bony handed the hosts the lead as he continues to deputise for Sergio Aguero, but it was the build-up play from Kelechi Iheanacho to set up De Bruyne that particularly caught the eye.
The 19-year-old has already had an impact in the Premier League this season by scoring the winner against Palace at Selhurst Park, but he will be hoping that he can find some consistency in order to force his way into Pellegrini’s plans on a more permanent basis.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether or not Alan Pardew’s side have a response in the second half as City look focused on the task in hand and determined to avoid an upset to follow their rivals out of the cup.
