Black Mamba announces that he may retire as early as next year.
It had to happen someday, but that day is a lot nearer than some thought (and hoped). In an interview on Saturday, Kobe Bryant stated that he had ‘two years left max’.
As a legend of the game and possibly the best player to compete in the NBA since Michael Jordan, the league will miss the Lakers icon for his contribution to the game.
As the team will have to rebuild the franchise once the inevitable day comes, it will be interesting to see how they cope without their talisman, and what direction Bryant himself will go next once he hangs up his jersey for the final time.
While his endorsement deals will prevent him from having to work full time after his retirement, Bryant will be a hot commodity as a media pundit, working on TV and radio, in a Gary Neville-esque role, which some people believe he would flourish in.
