The Knight Riders batsman has admitted it was inevitable Gayle would one day beat his record.
Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Brendon McCullum is not surprised Chris Gayle has beaten his IPL record, after the Royal Challengers Bangalore opener scored 175 not-out against Pune Warriors on Tuesday.
The previous record for an individual top score in a Twenty20 match was 158, set by McCullum in the first ever IPL match in 2008.
Yet the New Zealand captain says he always knew Gayle would one day beat that total and the Kiwi believes the RCB batsman is the most powerful 20-over player in the world.
