The Galaxy legend’s thunderous hit proved to be the difference between the sides after just two minutes of play.
If you’re going to win a match 1-0, you may as well do it in style.
Western Conference rivals LA Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps met on Saturday evening in a huge six-pointer, as both sides look to secure a playoff spot.
Whitecaps fans will be sick to their stomach after losing the game to the Galaxy’s one lone shot on target.
Just two minutes had passed when Donovan picked the ball up outside the area from a neat layoff from strike partner Robbie Keane, before slamming a long-range shot into the top corner past an outstretched David Ousted.
As a result the Galaxy are now five points off conference leaders Real Salt Lake with two games in hand. The Whitecaps on the other hand slip out of the playoff spots courtesy of FC Dallas’ 2-2 draw against San Jose Earthquakes.
