A-League side struggled in their second warm-up match.
Central Coast Mariners were indebted to teenager Tom Slater for sparing their blushes after scraping to a 1-0 win over Spirit FC.
The 17-year-old was on hand to hammer home Mitchell Duke’s lay-off to finally break the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association side’s 74 minute resistance on Thursday.
It also marked Slater’s first goal for the club following his summer switch from Sydney FC
