SS Lazio defeated Catania at Stadio Olimpico to earn a vital three points in Serie A.
SS Lazio grabbed a vital three points against Catania in Serie A to keep their European quest on track.
Just weeks ago, Lazio were competing for the Scudetto, but a tough run of form curtailed those hopes.
They now hope to reach either the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League.
After a low key opening half to this match, the second period had plenty of action.
It was the visitors who took the lead in shock fashion, but their impressive form this season could have seen them overtake Inter Milan if they’d managed to win here.
Perhaps Catania minds began to drift to such lofty heights when Mariano Izco fired them into the lead, but a rapid-fire riposte from Lazio saw all three points remain in Rome.
Nicola Legrottaglie scored an own goal after 79 minutes to hand Lazio their equaliser, and a matter of seconds later, Antonio Candreva slotted home a penalty to turn the match on its head.
