Retired referee Howard Webb, who officiated in the 2010 World Cup final, has called Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista a “silly boy” following his red card against Chelsea in Saturday’s 2-0 win for the Blues.
Gabriel was shown a straight red card for tamely kicking Diego Costa with his heel. Costa had earlier slapped Laurent Koscielny in the face – an act which he got away with.
Discussing the incidents, Webb, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, slammed Gabriel for committing his crime right under the nose of referee Mike Dean.
Costa ran the risk of getting sent off, but at least he did it in a fairly sneaky way.
Do we just have to accept that he’s a really clever cheat? Grim thought!
