Ex-McLaren driver downbeat ahead of the new F1 campaign.
Briton Lewis Hamilton was in a cautious mood following testing on his Mercedes in Barcelona ahead of the new formula one season.
“What counts is not to be faster than McLaren but faster than anyone,” said the former driver’ world champion.
“But the down force factor is what everybody is pushing massively hard for. Because the team ran and completed races and even won a race last year. So they clearly had not such a bad foundation in terms of the mechanics. The mechanic side of the car. Is in the down force where we need to improve.”
Meanwhile, Williams’ Spanish driver Pastor Maldonado was upbeat after his testing, saying: “I’m very positive. I think after four days all of the team should be happy because of the way this new FW35 has run.
“It seems to be a pretty reliable car. Yesterday we did two race simulations, one in the morning and another during the afternoon, without any problem. Which is very positive because that was our goal for these tests.
“We wanted to do many kilometres and we’ve achieved that. And we go back with lots of very important information for the factory. And then the next week with new things and finally getting ready for the first race.”
