Lorient and Valenciennes could only manage a point each in a tightly fought Ligue 1 match.
Lorient took an early lead against Valenciennes, but were unable to hold on and both teams shared the points in the end.
The hosts struck with their first attack of the match, former Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere sending Kevin Monnet-Paquet clear, and he fired a low shot powerfully home after just three minutes.
Valenciennes nearly equalised soon afterwards though, but Mathieu Dossevi was denied by the crossbar.
Vincent Aboubakar was then guilty of several misses for the visitors, and Valenciennes were lucky that they didn’t pay for his profligacy in the end.
They got their reward for their efforts after eighty minutes though, with Lorient’s Arnaud Le Lan handballing in the area.
Gael Denic slotted home the resultant penalty, and the two teams had to settle for a point each.
