Nowitzki leads Dallas to overtime win over Clippers.
Dirk Nowitzki drained eight of his season-high 33 points in overtime to push the Dallas Mavericks past the Los Angeles Clippers 109-102 on Tuesday night.
The latest win improves the Mavericks to 35-36 for the season, as they have won nine of their last 12 games to move to within a game of the Los Angeles Lakers in the race for the eighth seed in the West.
Chris Paul also scored 33 points while Caron Butler and Blake Griffin both added 14 points apiece, but it wasn’t enough for the Clippers who are now 5-5 in their last 10 games as an indifferent period of form has halted their progress.
Dallas host the Indiana Pacers on Thursday hoping to increase the pressure on their Western Conference rivals as a once improbable play-off spot looks increasingly realistic.
Meanwhile, the Clippers prepare for the second of their five-game road trip when they travel to New Orleans to face the Hornets.
