Famous No.34 jersey retired at half-time on Tuesday night.
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was honoured by the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, with his old jersey retired and added to the collection on the Hall of Fame wall in the Staples Center.
O’Neal arrived in Los Angeles back in 1996, and went on to help the Lakers to three NBA championships from 2000-2002.
The video below shows some insight into his arrival in the city, with the tough times that welcomed him followed by some of the most memorable moments of his career.
The 41 year-old was welcomed on to the court at half-time of the Lakers’ eventual 101-81 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, giving a memorable speech as he witnessed his jersey being raised to the rafters of the arena.
There were tributes from old team-mate Kobe Bryant, former coach Phil Jackson as well as Jeanie Buss before Shaq took to the microphone to deliver a speech thanking his parents, children and the late Dr. Jerry Buss.
O’Neal ended his speech with a customary “Can you dig it?”, a catchphrase made famous from the Lakers’ championship parade back in 2000.
He now joins the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain and Magic Johnson on the famous wall in the Staples Center.
