Nani was given a straight red for Manchester United against Real Madrid in an immensely controversial decision.
Nani was sent off for Manchester United at Old Trafford with a decision that seemed incredibly harsh on first glance.
On second glance with the help of a replay, it seemed incredibly harsh too.
Nani had only eyes for the ball as he attempted to control a clearance from Evra, but his boot made contact with the chest of Alvaro Arbeloa.
It was far from a terrible challenge compared with Nigel de Jong’s on Xabi Alonso in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final – which of course was only punished with a yellow card – but Nani was given a straight red card.
It was to be a turning point in the tie.
