The Portuguese international was a significantly popular figure at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009, and has continued to win accolades, both individual and collective, since his switch to Real Madrid.
Evidently, he continues to monitor the progress of his former club, and believes that Louis van Gaal has his side playing well and that is reflected in the fact that they are near the top of the Premier League table.
United currently sit in fourth place in the standings and remain just four points adrift of joint league leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.
However, Van Gaal has received significant criticism for the lack of goals with his side suffering from three consecutive goalless draws prior to their 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League this week.
That stems from their conservative and methodical approach in attack, with the likes of Wayne Rooney struggling to have an impact.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t seem to have put Ronaldo off too much as he insists that they can win silverware this season and he is convinced that Van Gaal is the man to ensure that it happens.
“Manchester is good this year. They are better. They are at the top so it’s good and it’s a club I like, everyone knows that,” said Ronaldo, as reported by Sky Sports.
“What I expect is that Manchester can be champions in England. With Van Gaal, with all the players and staff, I wish them all the best.”
Whether or not this is a sentimental judgement given his history with the club is unclear, but there are still plenty of doubters who question whether or not United are capable of competing with City and Arsenal.
