During their head-to-head after weighing in on the staging area, Pacquiao appeared to mouth ‘thank you’ to his rival before breaking away from the face-off in laughter as he traditionally dislikes it.
While the Filipino later revealed that he had in fact thanked Mayweather, he explained that it was because he was thankful that the American had agreed to the fight and given the fans what they wanted.
However, the unbeaten superstar wasn’t fazed either way by his comment as he remained focused throughout the process and weighed in at 146 pounds, one pound inside the welterweight limit.
“I don’t know what he exactly said, but my focus is what we are going to do tomorrow,” said Mayweather, as reported by Sky Sports.
“I think all 47 fights played a major key (in my career). I dedicated myself to the sport of boxing for over 20 years and I’m ready.”
Pac-Man will attempt to do something that 47 other fighters before him have been unable to do by defeating Mayweather, and the excitement is certainly building ahead of the bout as these two future Hall of Fame fighters finally settle their rivalry.
The 38-year-old who considers himself ‘The Best Ever’, looked in great shape on the scales and certainly looked as though he has added additional muscle mass for this fight.
That would in turn suggest that he has worked harder on adding power to his game which could mean he will be looking for a knockout if the opportunity presents itself.
Mayweather hasn’t stopped any of his opponents since 2011 with his win over Victor Ortiz, although that was marred by controversy and so you have to go back even further to his win over Ricky Hatton for his last KO or TKO win.
However, he looks primed to make the most of any holes in Pacquiao’s defence as the Filipino has a habit of being reckless when he comes in to attack and that could be tailor-made for Mayweather’s defensive and counter-punching style.
