Dominant second half performance enough to see Chelsea through in Quarter Finals.
51′ [0 – 1] Ramires
73′ [0 – 2] V. Moses
Chelsea beat a a spirited and resolute Middlesbrough team, with a dominant and clinical second half display to set up a Quarter-Final tie with Manchester United.
A cagey first half in which Chelsea were unable to find anything in the way of clear-cut chances, Middlesbrough were the happier of the two teams to go into the break at 0 – 0.
However it was a fast start for Chelsea in the second half, and they were rewarded on 50 minutes with a cool finish from Ramires from the edge of the box.
Any hopes of a Boro fight back were quashed with 20 minutes remaining as Victor Moses found the net with an easy finish after neat play from midfielder Eden Hazard.
This win will give the team renewed confidence as the look to continue in their fight for a Champions League spot next season, as well as the incentive of playing Manchester United next weekend for a trip to Wembley on the line
