Napoli and Juventus played out a 1-1 draw in Serie A that suited the visitors far more, with Juve comfortable favourites to retain the Scudetto.
Napoli kept their slim Scudetto hopes alive by coming back to score a point against Juventus at home in Serie A.
Napoli actually began the match the brighter of the two sides, but Giorgio Chiellini headed home powerfully from a tremendous Andrea Pirlo cross to give Juve an advantage they scarcely deserved.
It justified Antonio Conte’s decision to gamble on Chiellini’s fitness, with the Italy international defender a doubt prior to the match due to an ankle complaint.
Fortunately for Napoli, they were able to equalise shortly before half time.
A speculative shot from distance from defensive midfielder Gokhan Inler was deflected into the net, and the teams were level.
Despite 20 shots on goal from Napoli – including eight on target – the home team were unable to grab the three points they desperately needed.
A point apiece does not cut Juventus’ lead at all, and Napoli will be further concerned that Edinson Cavani’s goal drought continues.
The Uruguay star last scored at the end of January, and Napoli will certainly need him firing towards the end of the season.
