Last year’s Serie A runners-up ran out winners after two Dortmund red cards.
It was the 2012/13 Serie A runners-up and the Bundesliga runners-up in action in the Champions League last night, as Napoli hosted Borussia Dortmund.
The Germans were last year’s beaten finalists in this competition, but were no match for Rafael Benitez’s side who triumphed thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenze Insigne.
Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp was sent to the stands after an angry outburst with the fourth official following Napoli’s first goal.
Things got worse for the away team when goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller charged off the stopper’s line only to handle the ball outside the area and also be given a straight red card.
Dortmund did get a goal back late on when Camilo Zuniga put the ball into the defender’s own net, but the night belonged to the hosts.
