Rivals win on Saturday night to set up mouthwatering grudge match later this year.
Nathan Cleverly defeated Alejandro Valori in his second outing as a cruiserweight on Saturday night and promised to “silence” rival Tony Bellew in their rematch.
The Welshman appeared to be taking some shots in order to get close to his opponent at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, but ultimately he revealed that was his gameplan throughout in order to break the Argentinian down.
However, as expected the fireworks were saved for after Bellew’s win over Julio Cesar Dos Santos, with the Merseysider immediately calling out his rival who had taken a seat at ringside to watch him in action.
After stumbling and kicking an advertising board out of the ring in the direction of Cleverly, Bellew was seen pointing at his bitter rival and insisting that he “was next”.
Their war of words spilled over into the post-fight interview with Sky Sports, albeit a little less heated after being asked not to swear on live television, with their hatred for one another showing that this is a genuine grudge and the rematch promises to be explosive.
Bellew has already claimed that he will force Cleverly to retire after their second meeting, and he will want to not only put the loss in 2011 behind him, but he insists that this is now personal and he wants to send the Welshman away for good.
