Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is still searching for his first win since arriving at Anfield earlier this month, having been held to three consecutive draws in all competitions.
However, the German tactician will be hopeful that the wait will be ended in the midweek cup clash with their fellow Premier League side, and Clyne has certainly set them on their way.
Joao Teixeira’s impressive effort was cleared off the line by the Cherries, but there was little that the backline could do to deny Clyne who hammered the ball home to open the scoring.
With Arsenal and Chelsea crashing out of the tournament on Tuesday night, Klopp will likely be targeting the Capital One Cup as a legitimate opportunity of winning silverware in his first year in England.
The former Dortmund boss is evidently using the competition as an opportunity to see how some of the younger players in his squad fare though, with Teixeira joined by Cameron Brannagan and Connor Randall in the starting line-up on Wednesday.
That trio along with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Jordon Ibe will be desperate to impress which in turn will potentially earn them a more permanent spot in Klopp’s first team plans.
