Spoelstra lauds versatility of James, believes he has the best all-round game in the league.
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has full faith in LeBron James ahead of the NBA Finals 2013, and has described him as the “super-glue” of the team.
James will be bidding for revenge when he faces the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 on Thursday night, after being part of the Cleveland Cavaliers team that fell to a 4-0 series sweep to Popovich’s men back in 2007.
The NBA’s MVP is a completely different proposition six years on though, and Spoelstra is confident that he can deliver as he has done all season long.
Further, the Heat coach also lauded James’ ability to improve different aspects of his game over the course of their time together in Miami, and believes he is the best in the league in several different areas.
“LeBron has shouldered more responsibility each year for us, and offensively he creates so many different triggers for us now than he ever had before,” Spoelstra told reporters on media day.
“He has the ball in his hands a lot, he has it in the post, in the open court, but he also sets a lot of screens for us which is a new development for him and he does that as well as anybody in the league.
“He’s our super-glue, and wherever we put him, he’ll make it work,” he added.
The series begins at the AA Arena on Thursday night, and the Miami faithful will be hoping for a comprehensive win to help discard memories of their previous Game 1 mishaps in the last two rounds.
The Chicago Bulls were able to take a lead back in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, while the Indiana Pacers were denied by a last-gasp James lay-up which sealed the win.
It promises to be a fascinating encounter against what Spoelstra believes is the best in the West against the best in the East.
