Curry cools down after altercation to lead Warriors charge…
The Golden State Warriors sealed an emphatic win over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday as they swept the four-game season series against their Western Conference rivals.
Curry ended the game with 22 points and 10 assists as the Warriors held off the Rockets to move to 34-6 for the season with Klay Thompson adding 27 points and five assists.
However, the game didn’t pass without tempers flaring as Curry became involved in an altercation with Trevor Ariza. The Warriors point guard had already received a technical foul in the first half, but in the third quarter he was bumped into by Ariza who was assessed a technical of his own following a video review.
“If that’s how they want to try to get back in the game, it didn’t work,” Curry said. “We answered that physicality by just playing our brand of basketball.”
Golden State swept the four-season season series against the Rockets for the first time since 1973-74 as James Harden responded with 33 points, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
Elsewhere, the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame the Washington Wizards in overtime as Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant guided their team to the win.
Westbrook had 32 points, eight rebounds and eight assists while Durant added 34 points to secure a fourth straight win for the Thunder. The duo scored all 13 points in the extra period while Durant was greeted with the latest plea from the Washington fans to join them in free agency in 2016.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks made it back-to-back wins on Wednesday as they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers on the road behind 27 points and 11 rebounds from Carmelo Anthony.
In a game billed as “Tank Bowl”, the Knicks were able to claim consecutive wins for the first time since October 30-November 2. The win moves them to 7-36 for the season, just one win behind the Sixers (8-34).
Staying in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers continued to roll with a win over the Utah Jazz as LeBron James led the way with 26 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
It was a fourth straight win for Cleveland who improve to 23-20 for the season as they begin their push to move up the Eastern Conference rankings.
