The Rockets started strong with both Harden and Dwight Howard going to work in the first quarter, with the latter putting up some points as his minutes limit continues to be raised gradually.
Some impressive ball movement allowed Houston to extend their lead, but Russell Westbrook ensured that the game remained close as he took the fight to the current second seed in the Western Conference and ended the game with his 11th triple double of the season with 40 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists.
However, there was some impressive play on both ends from the visitors who had a highlight play in the third quarter with Terrence Jones getting the block on one end before the fast break which resulted in Trevor Ariza draining the three.
In what was certainly an entertaining game, both teams will continue their respective races with the Rockets looking to secure the second seed ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies while the Thunder are continuing to hold off the New Orleans Pelicans for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
It was a thrilling finish to the game with both teams trading threes as Westbrook and Harden traded huge shots, and although the latter fouled out with a minute remaining, the Rockets held on for the W as OKC’s star point guard missed the final shot of the game which would have sent it to OT.
