Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant scored 27 points in his comeback from injury but couldn’t prevent his team from losing to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night.
Durant had missed the first 17 games of the season after suffering a stress fracture in his foot during pre-season, and during his absence the Thunder had struggled to a 5-12 record.
Point guard Russell Westbrook also returned from injury this week after he sustained a broken hand, and he scored 32 points in the win over the New York Knicks. However, the pair couldn’t link up to secure back-to-wins for OKC as Tyreke Evans and Anthony Davis led the hosts to the win.
Instead, they slip to 5-13 for the season as experts question their ability to win at a sufficient rate to make the playoffs this year. However, for Thunder fans, they will be delighted to see their star duo back on the court and will expect them to be firing by the end of the month.
Durant admitted that he needs to continue to work on his conditioning while he also struggled with turnovers in the opening three quarters, and so there is plenty of room for improvement for the reigning league MVP as he looks to get back to his best.
