Brooklyn Nets vs Atlanta Hawks: NBA playoffs preview, live stream and prediction
The Brooklyn Nets have tied their series with the Atlanta Hawks 2-2 after beating the Hawks 120-115 in OT.
It was one of the most exciting games of the entire first round of the playoffs as the Hawks and Nets each claimed and then gave up multiple leads of five points or more, but ultimately it was the Nets who managed to stay ahead thanks to an All-Star performance by G Deron Williams, who broke the Nets playoff record for successful 3-point attempts with seven.
Williams, who recorded less than 10 points in the Nets’ Game 3 win over the Hawks, was unstoppable as he recorded 13 FGs and 7 three-pointers en route to a 35-point performance – one of the best in the playoffs so far.
Nets C Brook Lopez did his significant part as well, recording 26 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the series. G Bojan Bogdanovic and F Alan Anderson also made their presences known in a huge way with 15 points and 11 points respectively. Starting Fowards Joe Johnson and THaddeus Young also contributed to the Nets’ highest scoring game of the playoffs with 17 and 10 points respectively.
Despite getting 16 to 20 point performances from each of their five starters, the Hawks just could not answer the sensational play of Deron Williams
Here are the highlights from the Nets vs. the Hawks:
An early blatant foul on Deron Williams was curiously not called (though he would get his revenge at the free throw line later)
The Nets would answer Atlanta’s rough play in the early goings of the game with an incredible 18-3 run that had them up by eight points in the 1st quarter.
But the Hawks would tie the game up and later take the lead in the 2nd quarter thanks to DeMarre Carroll, who had 20 points on the day.
The Hawks would extend their lead to nine in the second half, but that’s when Deron Williams began his assault on the Nets’ record books while Alan Anderson and Bojan Bogdanovic gave their contributions as well.
In the fourth quarter, Deron Williams crossed the 30-point plateau – his best performance of the postseason so far to give the Nets the lead again.
The Hawks and Nets exchanged narrow leads that included a sneaky slam dunk by Bogdanovic to give the Nets the lead with time ticking away.
Then Deron Williams set the Nets all-time record for free throws in a game with his 7th.
In overtime, Thaddeus Young gave the Nets the lead for good after hitting a layup and drawing a Hawks foul.
Deron Williams would then seal the win with a free throw chance he should have been given earlier – going a perfect 2-for-2 to give the Nets the 120-115 win.
