Fresh from Derrick Rose’s heroics in the last encounter, the Bulls were able to tie the game at 84-84 with 1.5 seconds remaining on the clock.
James collected the in-bounds pass and drilled the jumper to seal the win, and it could turn out to be crucial in this match-up as the series heads back to Cleveland on Tuesday.
The two-time NBA champion finished the game with 25 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, and although it looked at one stage that he may well have missed the opportunity to win the game for his team, he stepped up and delivered to silence the United Center and send the Cavs players running on to the court.
Rose had 31 points to lead all scorers in the game, but it wasn’t enough this time round to get the win for the Bulls who will feel this was a missed opportunity.
With Kevin Love already out, point guard Kyrie Irving was hobbling for much of the game as a foot problem continued to trouble him as James himself appeared to be turn his ankle in the second half.
However, the Cavs will head home with the series tied and the momentum firmly back in their favour as the Bulls must now be the team to pick themselves up from the disappointment of a heartbreaking finish.
