Conley remains in a protective mask after undergoing surgery on broken bones in his face, but that didn’t stop him from playing a crucial role on Tuesday night with a team-high 22 points.
Zach Randolph also enjoyed a strong night with 20 points and seven rebounds, as Memphis took home court advantage away from the No.1 seed in the Western Conference ahead of the series switching to the Grindhouse for Game 3 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, it was just a third home loss of the season for the Warriors as they couldn’t get it going throughout the game, with Stephen Curry struggling after receiving his MVP award right before tip-off.
The Warriors star point guard struggled for his 19 points, going 7-of-19 from the field, while Klay Thompson was equally as disappointing with 13 points but went 6-of-15.
Nevertheless, Golden State will remain the favourites to prevail in this series and to go on and advance to the Western Conference finals, but they now know that they will need to claim a win on the road in order to eliminate the Grizzlies.
Coach Steve Kerr will look to the lack of ball movement and efficient shooting as the key areas for improvement, although turnovers were also an issue for the hosts in a sloppy game.
However, a great deal of credit must also go to the Grizzlies for grinding them down inside and also getting their shots to fall from range, and so they deservedly take a tied series back home later in the week.
In addition, Tony Allen will certainly be ready after reminding everyone of his defensive skills…
