James was guilty of making some key offensive fouls down the stretch which looked like they would cost the Cavs as Chicago came back to tie the game with just 1.5 seconds remaining on the clock.
However, the two-time NBA champion received the in-bounds pass and got off his shot over Jimmy Butler to silence the United Center and change the complexion of the series entirely.
The Bulls would undoubtedly have been in a strong position at 3-1, but instead they now travel back to Cleveland at 2-2 with injuries starting to take their toll.
Pau Gasol was ruled out of Game 4 with a hamstring strain while Taj Gibson left with a knee injury. However, the Cavs are also suffering as Kyrie Irving struggled with a foot issue while James provided everyone with a scare after he rolled his ankle.
It remains to be seen who is missing on Tuesday night, but it certainly promises to deliver more drama in what is quickly becoming a classic series.
James finished the game with 25 points, while Derrick Rose led all scorers with 31.
Over in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Clippers made no mistake in their bid to take a 3-1 lead over the Houston Rockets as they routed their rivals at home.
DeAndre Jordan scored 26 points and added 17 rebounds while Blake Griffin had 21 points. Chris Paul finished with 15 points and 12 assists, as Rockets coach Kevin McHale conceded that they “beat the hell” out of his team.
It will take something special for the Rockets to turn things around, but after a weekend which saw their sensational buzzer-beaters, don’t rule anything out just yet.
NBA Results:
Cleveland Cavaliers 86-84 Chicago Bulls
Houston Rockets 95-128 Los Angeles Clippers
