Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson went off early in the team’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night as Steve Kerr’s men won yet again.
In scenes reminiscent of his historic night against the Sacramento Kings earlier this season, Thompson went on a one-man tear for the Warriors to guide them to a win which moves them to 66-15 for the season and 38-2 at home.
The Western Conference leaders have not stepped off the gas even though the best record in the NBA has been secured for over a week, and with just one more game to go until the playoffs start, they will be itching to get started.
Elsewhere, DeAndre Jordan had 20 points and 21 rebounds in the Los Angeles Clippers’ win over the Denver Nuggets, while it was a night for the big men in the league as Rudy Gobert put up 20 points and 17 rebounds in the Utah Jazz’s win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Hassan Whiteside followed suit with 24 points and 13 rebounds in the Miami Heat’s win over the Orlando Magic which temporarily keeps their playoff hopes alive, while Pau Gasol had 22 points and 11 rebounds in the Chicago Bulls’ win over the Brooklyn Nets.
LeBron James helped himself to a triple double of 21 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers saw off the Detroit Pistons a night after resting all their key players in the heavy loss to the Boston Celtics.
However, the story of the night was that the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference will go down to the very last game of the regular season as both the New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder won on Monday night.
The Pelicans saw off the Minnesota Timberwolves with Anthony Davis posting up 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Russell Westbrook was instrumental in defeating the Portland Trail Blazers after he had two technical fouls rescinded on Monday which wiped out his suspension.
The explosive point guard finished with 36 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and so now they must win their last game against the Timberwolves and hope that the San Antonio Spurs defeat the Pelicans to complete the turnaround.
